Hello. The car we are enjoying in today’s Legendary Moment is:
Lamborghini Murcielago (LP580)
Lamborghini captured enthusiasts' hearts with some of the most avant-garde design among supercar makers. Like other luxury manufacturers, it could not escape financial trouble. After its acquisition by Audi in 1999, it launched the Murciélago in 2001. Compare its appearance with period cars such as Ferrari's 575M Maranello and Porsche's 996 Turbo and GT3 to appreciate how radical it was. The Murciélago, followed by supercars such as the Enzo, SLR McLaren and Carrera GT, ignited the millennium supercar wars. If you haven't seen the review yet, take a look.

It dominates everything else on the road, almost like a sculpture.

Exactly what you would expect from Lamborghini, which has built cars for the world's wealthy and passionate for decades.

A supercar's essential quality is not its design, power or price.

Simply being in it should suggest a life far removed from repetitive everyday routine.

In the city, the Murciélago is a moving sculpture.

Can you feel its exhaust note echoing between the buildings?

On a narrow road one spring day,

or along a city boulevard that once defined an era, it remains in a class of its own.

It makes you reconsider what it means to make an entrance when stepping out of a car.
Lamborghini always seems to know exactly what its owners do and want. Scissor doors are a signature reserved for the top models.

Even with age, it cannot help drawing the eye. A supercar's price includes the value of such intangible qualities.

Attractive curves heighten the tension within its forceful straight lines.

The broad tires hidden in shadow speak for its character.

The angular taillight corners inherited through the Miura, Countach and Diablo have been reinterpreted for a modern era.

Where ordinary cars gather details around their wheels, the Murciélago is so simple it can almost feel bare.

Even the raised lettering on the door sill is treated distinctively.

But that slight Audi feeling in the instrument cluster probably isn't imagination.

The unusual buttons for its single-clutch transmission show their age, yet still promise a raw charm.

A twelve-cylinder car exists on another plane, beyond comparison through any other feature.

We increasingly hear about an “unassailable lead.” Lamborghini has created one within its own category. Lately it seems to avoid direct competition while emphasizing the many areas where it excels.

The Murciélago we met today helped define the millennium supercar era. What is your dream car? We will be here until it appears on LEGENDARY100. Thank you.
